ABOUT THE DATA ARCHITECT ROLE

As a BI data architect you will be guided by our chief architect and be responsible for designing, developing, documenting data models, data dictionaries, taxonomies, pipelines and dashboards for an analytical platform.  Not only will you be developing using the latest technologies for building BI solutions, you will help drive a BI team in the construction of pipelines, data warehouses and reporting solutions that will be used downstream by customers, data scientists and analysts.

The ideal candidate will have strong retail data experience. They need to easily create third normal form logical models, and physical transactional and dimensional data models; reverse engineer existing physical data models; and document current and new business process models. They will need deep experience in working with both transactional databases as well as data warehouses; building data pipelines; transforming and conforming data; and building reports.  The individual should love working with data and able to work well individually in structured and ambiguous environments as well as be part of a collaborative team working on a rich variety of projects. Must be comfortable in communicating with business as well as customers when required.

Responsibilities:

  • Create reference data models and business process models

  • Design and document conceptual, logical and physical models

  • Create data dictionaries and taxonomies

  • Reverse engineer existing reporting and transactional databases to create AS-BUILT physical data models

  • Design and document dimensions and facts

  • Document new and existing business and system processes

  • Able to navigate in an IT environment to access data from databases, files servers and other environments

  • Develop with SQL language using complex CTEs and Window Functions

  • Build high volume data pipelines (Full and Incremental Pulls)

  • Build data quality monitoring processes and reporting

  • Design and performance tuning analytical dashboards

  • Define data source file formats and mappings

  • Ensure data security to meet privacy requirements

  • Support BI developers in understanding how to optimally use the data located in a data warehouse

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years in enterprise data modeling in a variety of business areas

  • Experienced in business and system process modeling (Experience in BPMN is a bonus)

  • Very proficient in using data and process modeling tools (Experience with Visual Paradigm a bonus)

  • Able to create and understand reference models

  • Proficient at creating third normal form logical data models

  • Understanding of Ralph Kimball Methodology for building Warehouses and Pipelines

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Equivalent Experience

  • 5 years experience with one or more Databases (Snowflake, SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, My SQL or Ingres)  

  • 5 years experience with building pipelines  

  • Heavy experience in SQL

  • Experience in Python or Scala

  • Experience with and designing solutions for columnar warehouses
